Volunteer Spotlight: Stas Zakharenko

Meet Stas Zakharenko, an attorney in GTC Law Group’s thriving Technology and Artificial Intelligence groups with almost 20 years of experience at well-known companies including Amazon and Netflix. Since 2019, Stas has put his legal talents to use as an outstanding Pro Bono Partnership volunteer dedicated to assisting nonprofit music and arts organizations. In total, Stas has volunteered on 40 matters ranging from reviewing contracts and assisting with intellectual property protection to helping the Partnership’s charitable clients apply for incorporation and tax exemption.

While Stas’ passion for the arts has been the focus of his volunteerism, he has generously provided legal guidance to so many other nonprofit clients as well. At the end of 2023, Stas volunteered to help Refugee Assistance Partners NJ Nonprofit Corporation (RAP), a nonprofit that helps refugees who have been resettled in and around Union County, NJ find sufficiency while safe-guarding their dignity and uniqueness. Stas reviewed and revised RAP’s bylaws and certificate of incorporation, a critical building block for every nonprofit. After the project was complete, RAP’s Executive Director Jill Segulin wrote to Stas “You have really changed our organization for the better. Updating our bylaws was an enormous step forward for our sustainability as an organization. We also deeply appreciated your patience with us and… how you worked with us to consider several different options for improvements.”

Stas’s ability to provide expert counsel while also meeting the client’s needs is what makes him one of our most valued volunteers. We are so grateful for Stas’ support of the Partnership and commitment to empowering our nonprofit clients.
