Matching Gifts and Workplace Giving
Do you or your spouse work for a company that has an employee giving program or will match your gift?
Utilize your company’s employee giving match program to leverage the link between your professional life and your commitment to Pro Bono Partnership. Many companies match employee donations dollar-for-dollar, meaning your donation of $50 per month can be worth more than $1,000 each year.
Matching Gifts
Participating in a matching gift program makes your donation go further. Many companies encourage employees to donate to their favorite charities by matching their contributions, in some cases dollar-for-dollar or more. Some companies may match gifts made by retirees or spouses of employees.
Check to see if your employer offers a matching gift program or request a matching gift form and program guidelines from your human resources department.
Match Your Volunteer Hours
If you volunteered with the Partnership, you may be eligible to submit a request for a Volunteer Grant to the Partnership through your employer. A Volunteer Grant is a donation made by your employer to the nonprofit you volunteered your time with.
Check to see if your employer offers a volunteer grants or contact your HR department.
Payroll Deductions
Payroll giving programs allow you to build in charitable giving directly into your payroll deductions. This can be beneficial if you want to:
- Give a larger amount over a period of time
- Set up monthly/weekly giving that you don’t have to think about
- Get your charitable tax deductions more easily (most payroll giving will be reported directly on your W2)
You may be eligible to give regularly through a payroll deduction. Check to see if your employer offers payroll giving programs or contact your HR department.
Stock Transfer
Stock gifts of appreciated stock can yield tax benefits because they are deductible from your income tax at their fair market value. This kind of gift avoids capital gains tax that would otherwise result from selling the stock and then using the cash to make your gift to the Partnership. Gifts of appreciated assets are deductible in amounts up to 30% of adjusted gross income, and any excess deductions may be carried over for use in the future.
When you give stock it is important that you contact us to indicate that a gift of stock is being made to Pro Bono Partnership, what type of stock, and the purpose for which it is intended.
Gifts of stock/securities may be deducted at full market value on the date of transfer to the Partnership.
Gifts of stock by electronic transfer (DTC) of the shares between your broker and Pro Bono Partnership’s broker, Vanguard. Please contact Heidi Siesfeld, Director of Development, at hsiesfeld@probonopartner.org to notify the Partnership of your plans to make a gift of stock. We will need your broker’s name and telephone number as well as the name of the stock and the number of shares you wish to transfer. Please also inform your broker of your intent to make a gift of stock. This information will ensure the details of the transaction are completed accurately and efficiently. Stock transferred in this fashion is valued on the date of the transfer — the date it moves into the Pro Bono Partnership account.

Bequests
A bequest is a gift that an individual leaves to a nonprofit in their will or living trust. It’s one of the easiest and most flexible ways for someone to create a lasting impact—without affecting their financial situation during their lifetime.
Why donors choose bequests:
- Simple to set up: Adding a few lines to a will or trust is usually all that’s needed.
- Flexible: Donors can give a specific amount, a percentage of their estate, a particular asset, or the remainder after other gifts.
- No cost today: The gift occurs after the donor’s lifetime, so it doesn’t affect day‑to‑day budgets.
- Potential tax advantages: Charitable bequests may reduce estate taxes; donors should consult their financial or legal advisors.
Bequests often create transformational long-term support—funding scholarships, programs, research, and other initiatives for years to come. Many donors appreciate knowing their values will continue to make a difference long after they’re gone.
If you have questions about how to make a bequest to Pro Bono Partnership, please contact Heidi Siesfeld, Director of Development, at hsiesfeld@probonopartner.org.
