Legal Alert: Connecticut Minimum Wage Increases Begin October 1, 2019



On May 28, 2019, Governor Lamont signed into law Public Act 19-4: An Act Increasing the Minimum Fair Wage. This Act provides, in part, for the gradual increase of the State’s minimum wage from the current rate of $10.10 per hour to $15.00 per hour by June 1, 2023.

Effective Date New State Minimum Fair Wage
October 1, 2019 $ 11.00 / hour
September 1, 2020 $ 12.00 / hour
August 1, 2021 $ 13.00 / hour
July 1, 2022 $ 14.00 / hour
June 1, 2023 $ 15.00 / hour

Nothing in Public Act 19-4 alters employer requirements to comply with the federal Fair Labor Standards Act.

What Employers Should Do Now:

  • Review payroll records to ensure that qualifying employees receive pay raises to at least the new minimum fair wage by October 1, 2019.
