Liberty Bank Foundation Grant Supports Free Legal Services for Greater Hartford Area Nonprofits

Hartford, Conn. (July 2, 2026) — Pro Bono Partnership (the Partnership) has received a grant from Liberty Bank Foundation to support its Hartford-area program, helping local nonprofits access free business legal help so they can focus more resources on serving the community.

As nonprofits across Connecticut face increasing legal and regulatory challenges, Pro Bono Partnership provides free legal assistance on matters that often limit a nonprofit’s ability to serve, such as employment issues, contracts, governance, intellectual property, fundraising compliance, and risk management. The Partnership also operates a Legal Resource Helpline and offers educational programs that help nonprofit leaders identify legal issues, adopt best practices, and avoid costly mistakes.

“Nonprofits are essential to the health and well-being of Greater Hartford residents, addressing critical issues such as housing and food insecurity, education, and mental health,” said Nancy Eberhardt, Executive Director of Pro Bono Partnership. “We are grateful to Liberty Bank Foundation for investing in the strength and sustainability of these organizations by ensuring they have access to the legal guidance they need to serve the community and fulfill their missions.”

Pro Bono Partnership is the only organization in Connecticut dedicated exclusively to providing free business and transactional legal services to qualifying nonprofits. By working with hundreds of volunteer attorneys who contribute their expertise to help nonprofits, the Partnership provides a way for organizations to build capacity to meet growing demand.

The Partnership expects to provide more than $3.7 million in legal services to Connecticut nonprofits in 2026, with approximately half of that value benefiting organizations in the Greater Hartford region.

Among the nonprofits served by the Partnership is Interval House, Connecticut’s largest agency dedicated to ending domestic violence. This Hartford-based organization offers no-cost support to about 6,500 victims of domestic violence per year, helping them become survivors. Since 2008, the Partnership has assisted Interval House with 18 legal matters, including several employment law issues, revising an employee handbook, contract negotiations, and providing staff legal trainings.

“We are so grateful that Pro Bono Partnership is always there for us,” said Mary-Jane Foster, Executive Director of Interval House. “It’s not just the access to legal services, but the improvement in governance and management that is so critical.”

Other local, Hartford-area nonprofits assisted by the Partnership include Literacy Volunteers of Greater Hartford, The Health Collective (formerly Hartford Gay & Lesbian Health Collective), Boys and Girls Clubs of Hartford, Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness, Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Charter Oak Cultural Center, AFCAMP, and the Hartford Police Athletic League.

“Being ‘Community Kind,’ is more than just words,” said Liberty Bank President and CEO David W. Glidden, who is also President of the Liberty Bank Foundation. “It’s about how we consistently show up in our community. We partner with local organizations like the Partnership to help our neighbors. Together, we make our communities stronger.”
