White Plains, NY (September 8, 2026) — The Pro Bono Partnership (the Partnership) Board of Directors announced the appointment of Ann Shalof as the organization’s next Executive Director following the planned retirement of Nancy Eberhardt, who has led the organization since 2017.
Effective September 14, Shalof joins the Partnership as the fourth Executive Director in its 29-year history. She brings extensive experience in nonprofit leadership, as well as a legal background and more than a decade of corporate leadership experience. Most recently, she was CEO of Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter, Inc. (NCS), a New York City-based nonprofit providing supportive housing and other services to homeless individuals, young adults aging out of foster care, and homeless college students.
During her 10 years at NCS, Shalof strengthened the organization’s financial position, operations, and programming. She secured new partnerships and strengthened existing relationships to grow the organization and expand its budget and services to address the growing crisis of homelessness.
Shalof is an attorney who began her career practicing corporate law in New York City. She subsequently served as CEO of Allerton Press, an international publishing company, before transitioning to the nonprofit sector. She is a graduate of Harvard Law School, where she earned her J.D. magna cum laude.
Shalof succeeds Nancy Eberhardt, who has dedicated 23 years of service at Pro Bono Partnership, including the last nine as Executive Director. In January, Eberhardt announced her plans to retire, prompting the Board to undertake a comprehensive search for a leader who could build on the Partnership’s strong foundation while shepherding it into its next decade.
“Finding a successor to Nancy was no easy task,” said Board President Jonathan Mothner. “We are incredibly grateful for Nancy’s dedication to the Partnership and to the nonprofit and legal communities. She has helped build an organization that is respected throughout the region for the quality of its legal services and the strength of its relationships with volunteers, nonprofit clients, law firms, corporations, and funders. We are thrilled to welcome Ann, whose nonprofit leadership experience, legal background, and proven ability to build strong organizations make her exceptionally well-suited to lead the Partnership forward.”
Under Eberhardt’s leadership, the Partnership expanded its reach and impact across Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York. During her tenure, the organization grew to serve nearly 1,000 nonprofits annually and fostered an extensive network of more than 1,900 volunteer attorneys who provide critical legal assistance to organizations working to level the playing field for disadvantaged and underserved communities.
“The Partnership is poised for continued success with Ann’s leadership,” said Eberhardt. “It has been my great pleasure and honor to work with the incredible staff and Board at the Partnership as well as our volunteers, nonprofit clients, and funders. I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished together, and deeply grateful to so many people who have contributed to the Partnership’s success. With Ann’s appointment, I’m confident that the wonderful community we’ve built is in good hands and that the Partnership will continue to make an ever-more-meaningful impact throughout the tristate.”
Shalof noted that she is looking forward to joining the Partnership, adding “I know firsthand how important the Partnership’s services are to the nonprofit community. The level of expertise and professionalism that exists here is exceptional, and I am eager to build on all that Nancy and her team have accomplished. I am honored that the Board has entrusted me with the leadership of this incredible organization, and am excited to be part of its next chapter.”
