Volunteer Spotlight: Kurt Odell, Moran Towing Corporation

Kurt Odell, litigation counsel at Moran Towing Corporation, is one of Pro Bono Partnership’s most prolific Fairfield County, Connecticut volunteers. Since he began volunteering with the Partnership, Kurt has worked on 10 matters for nonprofit clients ranging from homeless shelters to youth educational organizations. With the help of dedicated volunteers such as Kurt, Pro Bono Partnership has helped nearly 500 Fairfield County-based nonprofit organizations with their legal needs.Volunteer Spotlight - Kurt Odell

Kurt assisted Open Door Shelter, a Norwalk, Connecticut based nonprofit that provides housing, food, clothing, treatment, and transitional planning to those in need. Open Door sought legal advice regarding a new state employment law. Kurt was able to quickly provide the necessary guidance in a brief call with Open Door’s Executive Director, Jeannette Archer-Simons. Like so many of Pro Bono Partnership’s clients, Open Door was extremely grateful for the assistance. After the call, Jeannette thanked Kurt for “solv[ing] a problem for us so we can use resources for feeding and sheltering and helping people find homes.” She added “today, with a simple, generous act, Kurt, you became a member of our team.”

Kurt also provided critical legal advice regarding volunteer drivers to Rides For Ridgefield, a nonprofit that provides information and rides to Ridgefield senior citizens and residents with mobility disabilities. Small organizations such as Rides For Ridgefield that offer so much to the community truly depend on the generosity of our volunteer attorneys.

In addition to all of the work Kurt does for Pro Bono Partnership, he also serves as Chair of the International Group of the Association of Corporate Counsel (“ACC”) of Westchester/Southern Connecticut and was recently nominated to serve on its Board of Directors. Pro Bono Partnership was founded by members of the ACC of Westchester/Southern Connecticut back in 1997.

We are grateful to Kurt and all who support him at Moran Towing Corporation for their hard work and dedication to pro bono.
