Volunteer Spotlight: Lisa Peterson

Lisa Peterson began volunteering with Pro Bono Partnership shortly after she retired as Deputy Counsel of Hunter College in 2018. In a short time, Lisa has already assisted on six unique legal matters, helping several New York-based clients with critical missions like curing childhood cancer.

Lisa’s assistance during the pandemic was especially valuable to our clients, including COPE Foundation, a Long Island-based nonprofit that helps parents and families living with the loss of a child through support groups, a grief support phone line, and monthly healing workshops. Like so many of our clients, COPE needed assistance navigating the new waters of virtual programming and came to the Partnership for assistance drafting a disclaimer, waiver, and assumption of risk agreement for participants of a virtual program. Not only was Lisa eager to assist, but she was also able to accommodate COPE’s extremely tight deadline. Lisa’s work helped COPE with their immediate need and it also better positioned them for future virtual program events.

COPE’s Executive Director Adam Rabinovitch wrote that “Working with Lisa was a real pleasure. She was great at listening to and understanding our needs, then dove right in and quickly turned around a professional, clear, easy-to-use work product. We’ve continued to use her guidance and documents to protect our client families and the organization.” The Partnership is so grateful for Lisa’s commitment to pro bono work and we look forward to working with her on many more projects in the future.
